Learn more about caring for your Invisalign trays from your Pittsburgh dentist.

Do you have questions about caring for your Invisalign trays? Dr. John Sartorio, who practices cosmetic dentistry in Pittsburgh, PA, invisalignexplains why it's important to clean your trays daily.

What happens if I don't clean my trays?

Your aligner trays will soon look and smell awful if you don't spend a few minutes cleaning them every day. Smelly bacteria will begin to grow on your uncleaned trays, thanks to the the combination of plaque and dried saliva. If plaque begins to build up on your trays, they'll look cloudy and ruin the appearance of your clear braces.

How should I clean my Invisalign trays?

Keep your trays clean by rinsing them when you remove them from your mouth and just before you reinsert them again. Place your trays in your case when you remove them to eat. If you don't keep them covered, they may be exposed to bacteria and other germs.

Use anti-bacterial soap and a toothbrush to clean your trays every day. Brush trays thoroughly, and make sure you clean grooves and other recessed areas that can trap plaque and bacteria. Choose a clear type of soap, as colored soap can stain your trays. A soft-bristled toothbrush will help keep your Invisalign trays in good shape.

Although it might seem like a good idea to use toothpaste on your trays, many types of toothpaste are abrasive and can scratch or damage your trays. Cleaning them with anti-bacterial soap is a much better idea. After cleaning, rinse your aligner trays thoroughly before placing them in your mouth. Be sure to use cool water to rinse your trays because hot water can warp them.

If you notice a coating of plaque on your aligner trays, use Invisalign-brand magic crystals or denture cleaner to remove the coating. After the trays soak for the recommended time, brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove the loosened plaque.

Invisalign is an excellent cosmetic dentistry option that allows you to improve your smile without the wires and brackets required for traditional braces. If you're interested in straightening your teeth with this clear brace option, call Dr. Sartorio, your Pittsburgh, PA dentist, at (412) 831-8700. Transform your smile with Invisalign!

Discover all that these nearly invisible braces can offer your smile.

Ready to find out what benefits you’ll really reap when you get Invisalign from your Pittsburgh, PA cosmetic dentist Dr. John Sartorio?invisalign

Your Appearance

You may think that a smile full of metal is unsightly and unattractive. For many of our older patients, they are looking to skip the awkward metal braces even though they still desperately want a straighter smile. Invisalign does exactly what many patients want: these aligners straighten teeth but do so without other people noticing. No wires, no brackets and no metal, just clear, comfortable aligners that fit over your teeth.

Fitting into Your World

Many of our patients lead busy lives and they need a treatment that will fit into their schedule. With traditional braces, you often have to see your Pittsburgh dentist more routinely. But with Invisalign, you’ll come in less frequently (about every six weeks) to make sure everything is going according to plan.

Offering Superior Comfort

It probably goes without saying that metal braces don’t look all that comfortable. Having wires and metal in your mouth can be irritating to sensitive tissue like your gums, cheeks or tongue. With Invisalign you’ll get a flexible, comfortable aligner made out of thermoplastic. Each aligner is custom-made to fit your teeth so you’ll get an ideal fit every time.

Keep Some of Your Habits

Do you enjoy biting into a juicy steak? With traditional braces, certain foods are absolutely off limits, as they can possibly damage your braces. But with Invisalign you can still eat all of your favorite foods. Just take your aligners out before eating and you’re good to go.

Also, the same rule applies to your oral care regime. Most patients find it a challenge to brush around all that metal in their mouths and trying to pay close attention to all those little crevices. But with Invisalign you can take out your aligners and brush and floss like you have been. No need to change your comfortable routine!

If you are ready to take the next step toward a straighter smile then it’s time to schedule a consultation. Call our Pittsburgh dental office today and let us know you are interested in getting Invisalign.
